New Remodeling of Bathrooms

By Montez Taylor

For months multiple bathrooms on the first and second floor of the Sauk Valley Community College campus have been under construction. Students and staff can expect the newly remodeled bathrooms to be up and running around the third week of November.

Willett, Hofmann & Associates, Inc. along with IMEG Corp plan to work together  to design, bid, and oversee renovation of the six existing toilet rooms into single user toilet rooms for all staff and students.

All the bathrooms were original and were built in 1965 along with the building. Causing the equipment and architecture to become very outdated. Richard Groleau, director of facilities, states “the plumbing and other equipment were past their life expectancy”.

Although this is a major upgrade for the campus there were a few difficulties postponing the completion of this project. Richard Groleau says “the main problem was that there were certain walls made of solid concrete” making it more challenging for the removal of the old bathrooms.

Students and staff are eager to know when they will be able to use these bathrooms once again. There will be more on-campus remodeling this school year as well. Groleau also explains how all the womens bathrooms will undergo remodeling next.
